Kevin Beaty, President, YUNEV (Yunnan-US New Ventures, LLC)
Mr. Beaty is currently President of YUNEV. Initial clients/collaboration partners for YUNEV have included Michelin, Rocky Mountain Institute, strategic corporate/institutional investors, and other private equity firms. Prior to establishing YUNEV, Mr. Beaty held a series of executive, engineering and business leadership roles within CALSTART, Eaton Corporation (ETN: NYSE), Woodward Controls (WWD: NASDAQ), and Southwest Research Institute (SwRI).
His innovative design record includes building and leading award-winning advanced powertrain and controls product development teams/programs with global cross-functional and cross-cultural complexity. Under his leadership, strategic businesses within Eaton, Woodward and SwRI experienced profitable growth resulting from building and executing collaborative partnerships with leading global Truck/Bus/Engine OEMs and Suppliers.
He served as a founding and executive board member of both the 21st Century Truck Partnership (U.S. Department of Energy) and the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (www.NACFE.org). Mr. Beaty’s product/technology focus has been on advanced powertrains and controls for commercial vehicles (trucks and buses) including electric (EV/BEV), hybrid (HEV/PHEV/Hydraulic), and natural gas (CNG/LNG/NGV). His general management experience spans the entire business life-cycle: R&D, strategic planning, innovation/collaboration leadership, product development, product management, complex program management, BD/sales/marketing, strategic sourcing, production operations, customer support & operational excellence.
His work has received awards and recognition from industry and academia (including case studies from both Stanford and Harvard universities). His work has been featured in several leading business and trade press articles (e.g., Fortune, Forbes, Financial Times, Business Week, CNBC, New York Times, Good Morning America, MotorWeek, Design News, and others). Mr. Beaty has been invited to speak at numerous industry events around the globe (including two invitations to speak at the U.S. National Academy of Science). He has published a number of technical, peer-reviewed papers and is an author/co-author of 8 US Patents.
Kevin holds a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University and an MBA from Michigan State University. He has been a Registered Professional Engineer (currently “inactive”) with the State of Texas for 25 years and has been a Member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) for over 30 years.
